Can I get an abortion discretely?

In New Mexico, you don’t need parental consent if you are a minor to get an abortion. However, based on our research, it sounds like patients of certain healthcare providers can have their abortion records shared with other health providers. We do not know if this is intentional, a state law, or an issue with the medical records system they use. Read the comments from Reddit below:

“Idk what to tag this post as. I am just irritate. I don’t know what to do to get it off my record and I guess it’s too fucking late now. Now if I have a mental health crisis “OHHH, ITS FROM THE ABORTION” b* no it’s not I’m glad that thing is out of me.

Seriously… Seriously. Now I need to contact PP asking what the hell and why they did that without my consent and 0 heads up. They actually told me it would all be confidential and stay in PP. What is going on???”

You can see others confirming this in the following comments as well.

“The exact same thing happened to me, but I didn’t go through PP. I was absolutely furious.

If you ever get another one, don’t sign any forms they give you, and really stress that you will seek out legal action if they send your records to your PCP [regardless of whether or not you actually will].”

We recommend investigating this before you make your decision.

The history of Las Cruces, New Mexico

Las Cruces, New Mexico is the second largest city in the state, behind Albuquerque. It is the county seat of Doña Ana County and sits on the Rio Grande, making it one of the largest U.S. cities along the Mexican border. It is located less than an hour away from El Paso, Texas.

The city was founded in 1849 as a stop on the Camino Real, and was named after the nearby crosses erected by Spanish missionaries. Las Cruces soon became an important farming and ranching center in the region. In 1862, the city was occupied by Confederate troops during the Civil War, but was later recaptured by Union forces. In 1881, the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railway reached Las Cruces, making it an important transport hub. The city continues to grow and prosper, and is now home to over 100,000 people.
